Jennifer Celestin is Haitian-American and was born and reared in Brooklyn, NY. At 14 she was accepted to National Book Foundation's Writing Camp and began to seriously study expression through the written word. A year later she won the gold medal in poetry and represented New York City in the ACT-SO national competition.
At Wesleyan University Jennifer was a founding member and co-president of Writers' Bloc, a creative writing/performance workshop. She has performed at the Bowery, Brecht Forum, Brooklyn Museum, LaMaMa, and other venues. She works as an advocate counselor and writes for her sanity...seriously.
Haiti Cultural Exchange is a nonprofit organization established to develop, present and promote the cultural expressions of the Haitian people. It seeks to raise awareness of social issues and foster cultural understanding through the arts, education and public affairs. Krik:Krak! Storytelling and Songs is a program it has developed to engage children and adults in an exploration of the oral traditions of Haiti. Fiscally Sponsored by the Brooklyn Arts Council.
